Since October 1st, Mutum, a platform of cost-free borrowing & lending of objects, and URW Link have joined forces to implement a new service in Les Quatre Temps shopping centre
Mutum, lending and borrowing everyday objects for free between individuals
French households keep on average 34 objects used less than 3 times per year. Based on this observation, the startup Mutum was created to encourage everyone to share and exchange objects for free. Instead of keeping an unused object at home, people can now register it on the platform and lend it to other members of the community located around them. The platform relies on core values such as mutual help and trust between members, and it offers an innovative way of consuming, interacting and meeting people! Since its launch, Mutum has been successful with over 80,000 users and 150,000 objects available on the platform. The most borrowed objects range from travel guidebooks, to DIY tools (drills…), cooking gear and machines, sport clothing or video games.
Mutum is making exchanges easier and more collaborative
URW Link, the open innovation platform of Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, has decided to partner with Mutum and test this new service in one of its major shopping centres Les Quatre Temps located in La Défense, near Paris, that welcomed 42.4 million visitors in 2017.
Since October 1st, visitors of Les Quatre Temps have been able to take advantage of the Click&Services to lend and borrow items easily. The process is simple: the lender leaves the object at the Click&Services and the borrower can come and collect it from that same place, whenever suitable for him/her. This proof of concept (POC) is a way of making exchanges easier for Mutum users while fostering new reasons of visiting our shopping centre.
This test phase aims at experimenting the usage of Mutum in one of our assets and assess customers’ satisfaction: this POC reinforces circular consumption into our shopping centre by giving access to new goods for free and by having a positive environmental impact. If the test bears fruits, the initiative could be deployed and made accessible to many visitors in more shopping centres. This partnership is indeed in line with Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield’s CSR strategy of “Better Places 2030” and its will to develop an ecosystem of innovative services that encourage more eco-friendly and collaborative consuming behaviors.
Since its creation in 2015, URW Link has kept exploring the start-up stage to offer new services to the clients of Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield malls. Our partnership with Mutum is a new milestone on this topic; we are very proud to partner with such a promising startup on a first step and strengthen our commitment towards still more circular forms of consumption.Jean Collet
We are very happy to partner with Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield to provide our clients with new solutions that make their lives easier and that contribute to a more eco-friendly economy. Thanks to this new meeting place, Mutum users can now lend objects, regardless of their time constraints.Mathieu Jeanne-Beylot
